Our fifth annual “Fords & Friends” picnic was held on July 14th this year and again blessed with great weather and a big turnout. Inviting all old and special-interest vehicle owners sure makes for good attendance and added interest. We recommend it to smaller clubs who want organize a function but lack the number of club member to make it worthwhile.
We made two awards, People’s Choice and Long Distance. Both were won by non-members, the first for a Ford Roadster and the other for a ’53 Meteor from Lethbridge, Alberta (789 miles) We now realize we will probably establish a record for issuing long-distance acknowledgements at our upcoming Western National, “Fords ‘n’ Flowers ’86!”
September 1st saw 45 old cars of various makes, including those of many Club members by invitation, take part in the second annual Sidney Blind Run. The name is derived from the fact that the 11/4-hour tour route is a mystery to all but the organizers until it starts, and the prime source of hilarity is an obstacle course negotiated(?) in a golf cart by blindfolded and otherwise impaired drivers.
A poker hand competition and corn roast added greatly to the overall enjoyment of a beautiful fall afternoon.
All the Western Region V-8ers, especially, should be happy to know that our plans for Fords ‘n’ Flowers ’86 are progressing very nicely and we are looking forward to a really big turnout.
